How to Use a High-Power Generator Safely?

Choose a suitable location

1. Place the generator outdoors or in a well-ventilated room. Do not place it near doors, windows, or vents, as carbon monoxide may enter the indoor space.

2. Do not use the generator near flammable or explosive materials.

3. Place the generator on a dry surface. If you need to use it outdoors, cover it with a canopy to prevent moisture from causing electrical accidents.

Store and use fuel properly

1. Store the generator fuel in a dedicated storage room. The facilities in the room must comply with the fire department’s regulations.

2. Use the fuel type that matches the generator’s specifications or labels.

3. Turn off the generator before adding fuel. Wait until the generator cools down before adding fuel, to prevent fire hazards.

Connect the generator’s wires correctly

1. The outdoor wires must meet the load requirements of the appliances you use.

2. When using extension cords, make sure they are well insulated from the ground.

3. Do not plug the generator’s wires directly into the original power sockets of your home. This may cause feedback and endanger other users who share the same transformer. The correct way to connect is to have an electrician install a power transfer switch.

Keep the diesel clean.

Before adding diesel from a barrel, let it settle for at least 3 days. Filter it carefully to prevent mechanical impurities from entering. Also, keep the fuel container and fueling tools clean.

Do not mix other fuels with diesel.

If there are other fuels in the diesel, the combustion performance will deteriorate significantly, leading to difficulty in starting or even failure to start. Other fuels may also wash away the cylinder lubricating oil film, accelerating the cylinder wear.

Choose high-quality diesel.

The quality of diesel directly affects the normal operation of the diesel engine. If you use poor-quality diesel, it may reduce the engine power and make it insufficient. It may also increase the wear of the fuel system components and shorten the engine life. Therefore, choose good-quality and suitable-grade diesel.
