In April of this year, Mexican President Lopez reiterated his commitment to achieving 35% of the country's energy consumption from clean sources by 2024 during the Leaders' Summit on Energy and Climate. According to a clean energy report published by the United States Department of Energy, if Mexico successfully achieves its 35% clean energy goal, it could reduce electricity production costs by $1.1 billion, attract $17 billion in investments, and create over 72,000 direct job opportunities.

These include the refurbishment of hydroelectric turbines, the development of lithium mining to achieve zero-pollution emissions from 50% of vehicles by 2030, the construction of photovoltaic power plants and wind energy parks, the expansion of transmission lines, the modernization of refineries to produce low-sulfur gasoline from fuel oil, and the implementation of a daily quota for crude oil extraction. The restoration of the Trans-Isthmus railway in Tehuantepec will also significantly reduce the use of internal combustion locomotives, contributing to the advancement of clean energy.

Moreover, the Mexican government is actively pursuing the acquisition of power plants owned by the Spanish energy giant, Iberdrola, in Mexico. This acquisition involves 12 combined cycle gas turbine power plants and a renewable energy power plant, with a total installed capacity exceeding 8 million megawatts. The government expects that acquiring these existing plants will result in a 30% cost savings compared to building new ones. Upon completion of the acquisition, the Federal Electricity Commission's market share in Mexico's power sector will increase from 39% to 55.5%. This move will further strengthen Mexico's power generation capabilities, ensuring a reliable energy supply and stable energy prices for its citizens. The Mexican Ministry of Finance and Public Credit stated, "We welcome more private sector investments in Mexico's renewable energy development under the guidance of the government."
